Songs for Fall Feels: Live Ukulele Sesson
The transition from summer to fall is one of my favorite times of year. I love it so much that I — an award-winning writer! — barely have words to describe how full my heart gets when the trees explode into brilliant fluttering palettes and when golden hour more than lives up to its name with warm shafts of sunlight turning the leaves into stained glass.
I thrill to mornings that are foggy with chill and evenings that are just cold enough to break out the wool blankets for my toes (and for the cat to finally start snuggling again), when I can crack a window to smell and feel the crisp and piney wonder of a thousand autumns that came before this one.
Or, as Jack Kerouac wrote in Desolation Angels:
… the smell of doors opening, the door of Summer’s opened and let in brief glee-y fall with his apple smile, behind him old sparkly winter hobbles—
Music and lyrics, of course, evoke the season just as beautifully. And today I’m playing some of the songs1 that give me the fall feels in this live ukulele session.
The three fall songs in this set are:
- Goo Goo Dolls, “Name”
- Better Than Ezra, “This Time of Year”
- Taylor Swift, “All Too Well”
They’re songs that remind me of “that faint not-painful nostalgia of Autumn like smoke in the evening air,” to quote Desolation Angels once more. (Truly a wonderful book to curl up with in the fall!)
And even though they’re deeply personal to me, I hope they’ll give you that shiver of nostalgic happiness too.
