The Ukulele Alphabet: Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses by U2
Letter U, Week 2
“Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” by U2
MTV used to run an interstitial in the ‘90s with two guys having a conversation in a record-slash-CD store where one said to the other, “U2 goes under U.”
And I cannot remember the point of this interstitial — if it was making fun of guys who work in record stores or guys who frequent record stores in the vein of High Fidelity, or if it was a promo for 120 Minutes, or anything else about it — and the internet does not appear to have this particular commercial logged anywhere.
But that stupid line has haunted my brain ever since. So when we got to letter U, week 2, there was only one band I could pick.
Apologies, Urge Overkill! U2 goes under U and so it shall be categorized here.
This song, being a classic anthemic Bono wailer, really deserved to be played in a place with great acoustics.
Luckily, we took yet another spur-of-the-moment trip to my favorite place, MASS MoCA, with a stay at Porches, and I was able to take advantage of the incredible setting of Studio 9 once more.
Thank you to Todd for being so generous and letting me interrupt your prep time so I could do this!
