The Ukulele Alphabet: Our House by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Letter O, Week 2
“Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Remember when I told you I couldn’t use The Hollies as my H band because of Graham Nash? This is why. It’s because I always wanted a two-cat household.

I was raised on the 1974 CSNY compilation album So Far and out of every single perfect track on that album, this song stuck out as one of the most romantic idealizations of a life together — exactly what I imagined I would want to have as a grown-up. Own a cozy house, have a partner who adores your style, and have two cats. That’s it! That’s the dream!

I mean, Graham and Joni. Wow. (Here’s Graham’s story about the song, if you’re interested.)

And now here we are in a cozy room with the loves of my life: husband Dan (not pictured), Bixby (voluminous floofpanther blob), and Lenny Potatoes (stripey loaf who steals the show).

I’m especially grateful that Lenny, at 18 years and 4 months old, is still here and in good enough condition to join me for this song. And I’m forever grateful that four-and-a-half months after we bought this house, I called Dan and told him I was going to adopt some cats after work. And he knew there was no point in stopping me.

The cats and the weather cooperated so we’d all be on the couch at the same time to shoot this video — a rare horizontal one and possibly my only horizontally-filmed performance in this project! We shall see…
