The Ukulele Alphabet: Yakko’s World by Yakko Warner
Letter Y, Week 2
“Yakko’s World” by Yakko Warner
Y’all. I have waited ALL YEAR for this moment. The moment where I can show off one of the weird skills I’m proudest of: the ability to sing “Yakko’s World” from memory at the drop of a hat.
If, for some reason, you have no idea what this song is — it’s from the second episode ever of Animaniacs, which originally aired in September 1993.
1993 was pre-YouTube and pre-most everything internet (we definitely had AOL at this point, but I think I was still typing papers on a word processor), but it was NOT pre-VCR.
So I suppose — I’m really not sure how I learned it, but I suppose — either I or one of my friends somehow taped a rerun of the episode onto a VHS at some point between September 1993 and September 1995.
Because by the time I was a high school senior, I had the song memorized and it has been taking up prime real estate in my brain for the past 30 years.
You could call me up right now and I could sing it to you immediately. No refresher.
Honestly, the most difficult thing about doing this song was learning the two new chords for the “India, Pakistan” verse.
(And yes, I can do “Wakko’s America” too, but it’s not as fun for me. Still fun! But not AS fun.)
