Leaving on a Jet Plane
“Leaving on a Jet Plane” by Peter, Paul & Mary
I brought my ukulele to the TWA Hotel to record a song for the The Ukulele Alphabet: Hallelujah by Martin Sexton, because I figured there would be somewhere in the hotel I could use as a fun setting.
Turns out that they pipe ‘50s and ‘60s music EVERYWHERE in the hotel except the rooms, so it was the only spot without ambient noise. (With the added bonus of super-insulated windows so you wouldn’t hear a peep of airport noise while you were sleeping.)
As we were sitting around the room waiting for the staff to bring us robes to use at the pool, I was fiddling around on the uke and remembered that long, long ago, when I was attempting to learn guitar, I got the chords for “Leaving on a Jet Plane.”
What better song for the occasion? So I found the chords on my iPad and gave it a try. Not a bad rendition considering I’d never done it before!
I didn’t include this in the Ukulele Alphabet project in the end, but it was too good not to share here.
