The Ukulele Alphabet: Evil Spawn by Waxahatchee
Letter E, Week 2
“Evil Spawn” by Waxahatchee
Sometimes you’re just grateful for a really kick-ass song that starts with the letter E.
Everything Katie Crutchfield does is solidly awesome and I just had to include something from her on this list, having listened to Tigers Blood on repeat throughout 2024, and also being generally obsessed with her side project Plains.
So this is how it shook out, and I’m not sad about it!
Fun fact: The snow cone that appears on the back cover of Tigers Blood, as well as in the art for the two follow-up singles, “Much Ado About Nothing” and “Mud,” is a sigil for the album and title song.
“I’m talking about childhood and summertime and innocence, and I remembered this snow cone flavor that I ate as a kid called Tiger’s Blood. It’s strawberry and coconut mixed together. I’m talking about somebody’s mouth being stained with tiger’s blood because it’s red from eating a snow cone and I loved it so much.”
